I really struggled with what to do with this particular heart bead. I finally chose to pair it with faceted copper metallic beads and softer, pale green serpentine beads. Here is the result! I was qite happy with the way it turned out. The metallic copper beads pic up the metallic look of the heart bead and serpentine softens it just enough. From the Garden
Its been a tough year as far as the garden goes. It was really a fight to keep things watered enough that they wouldn't shrivel up and die. This was one of the successes. This particular plant has about 12-15 of these massive blooms on it and has been flowering for two months now. It was a gift from my neighbor.

I'm Back. I Think Lol!
Well, its been quite a while since I have posted last. Its been a crazy 7-8 months at my house. My youngest graduated from high school this May and everything leading up to graduation has just kind of taken over our lives. Her grad party is finally going to be next Saturday then we will be done! Of course, college starts next month, my oldest's last year of college and my youngest's first year of college. Lots of changes in our house. In the mean time I have started adding items back to my Etsy shops, so for those of you who prefer to shop on Etsy, most of my new work is there. You can find my jewelry at silverriverjewelry.etsy.com
I've added a mixture of old and new to this shop, with several new styles including more beadwork, ear cuffs and more.I have also been adding new beads like mad to my etsy bead shop silverriverglasswork.etsy.com Lots of new beads, more orbits beads, some very large lentil and heart focals among other things. The lentil in the picture is a whopping 1 1/2 inches across! This would make a stunning focal.
One more item on the shop news front, I have re opened my stitch marker shop on Etsy also, so if you are an avid knitter or crocheter, and want unique stitch markers/row counters come check them out! silverriverstitches.etsy.com.I am hoping to be able to start posting again more often and may do a weekly post involving a coupon or an item prices at a special price for the day. Keep an eye out, you might come across a great deal. And dare I say it? Christmas is only 5 months away!

Item of the Day February 8th 2011

Today's item is a lovely woodsy spring set of handmade lampwork glass beads. These are called Into the Forest as the feeling they evoke is of one lightly stepping out of the sunlight, onto the dappled forest path. Cool, green, leafy canopy overhead, the beginnings of adventure! You can find these beads in my Artfire shop SilverRiverGlassWorks, or simply click on the picture, it will take you directly to that listing.

Jewelry Item of the Week July 26th, 2010
This is one of my favorite pendants. I love being able to make most of each piece myself. In this case the lampwork bead is made by me and of course I put the rest of the finding together. This pendant has a lot of depth and has a very cool and serene, earthy feel to it. If you look closely you can see the flowers inside the glass. You can find this pendant in my shop at http://www.silverriverjewelry.artfire.com

A New Wire Wrapped Pendant Necklace Life At the Beach

So as everyone knows I like to do a wide variety of things inside my chosen field of jewelry design. (yes, I bore easily,
and I am fortunate that there is such a wide variety of things to do when designing and making jewelry lol). One of my first loves is wire wrapping and is in fact one of the first things that I taught myself to do when I got started. I haven't been doing a lot of fancy wire wrapping lately, between summer, some home projects (cleaning out the basement to make more room for me to work in lol) and just everyday life, I haven't had much time to do more than the basics. I finally sat down at my desk the other night and designed and made this piece. It didn't start out looking like
this but kind of evolved as I went along lol! I was relatively pleased with how well it turned it out since it has been a wee bit since I have done anything along these lines!

Saving the Rainforest
There is a fairly new selling venue out there that is focusing is on saving the rain forest. I thought this was really cool since if we
continue to cut down our rain forests eventually we will manage to cause our extinction through greed and lack of managing our natural resources well. I recycle and try and do all I can to support our environment but I always feel I could do more. ShopHandmade allows me to list my items for free and also to sell them for free as long as I allow one of two sponsors to have a spot on my listing. Addicted to scrap booking and Addicted to rubber stamping are the two sponsors. The spot is very inconspicuous and does not in any way detract from my listing. You have the choice of donating a percentage of your price, or 10 cents or 25 cents when you sell an item. Donations are not required though. I just really liked this idea a lot. The site takes a couple of run through to get the whole listing process down as it is a bit different but once you figure it out is really quite easy to do. Go check it out and decide if you want to save a little piece of the rain forest today!
